Greater Downtown Streetscape Master Plan
San Jose, California

Following the completion of Strategy 2000, an update of the Downtown Streetscape Master Plan was needed to update the existing 1989 Streetscape Plan and to expand the plan into the area covered by Strategy 2000. While employed by a municipal Redevelopment Agency, Mr. Flores directed a consultant who was retained in 2001, and the draft Streetscape Master Plan was completed in June 2002. The draft plan was reviewed by a City/Agency staff Technical Committee concurrently with public presentations to gain community input. Mr. Flores made presentations to the Historic Landmarks Commission, Downtown Association, and Disability Advisory Commission, with many others scheduled for early July. After receiving comments from both the community and the Technical Committee, the consultant incorporated appropriated suggestions and prepared a final recommended Downtown Streetscape Master Plan that was presented to the City Council/Agency Board in the fall 2003. The Streetscape Plan will be used as the basis for publicly funded streetscape projects as well as a guideline for developers to design and construct off-site improvements for new development.
